Im being a very honest this was a very good video. I see my last comment sank in a little. The signs are out there for a reason. You are looking like a real business name, othet then a man doing a side hustle. In my eyes this a what i call a good Quarterly report that every corporation does. And in those reports you are they forced to be honest on the Good and Bad.
We are about to see something that hasnt been seen in a hundred years. I love history and in history I think the greatest crash in the United States was the 1907 crash. People should do research in that, after that we cascaded into other events. We are teetering between a great recession/depression. It will be fixable in a good way but in afortunately there will be months where this doesn’t go to smooth. One thing with governments there is always a plan B. They don’t tell WeThe People until the last minute but legally they have to give signs in a round about way.
I’ve had people telling me if I’m not leveraging credit ill be stuck forever. Seems so short-minded. My collection from buying/holding/re-selling has grown from 1-200 from receipt scanning apps and UserTesting payouts into about 3-4k in sealed… Debt free, and without hitting my wife and I’s budget. I see others get more but I’m proud of my own.
I appreciate your anti-fomo-panic content!
Alex- Thanks for making this video. You’re helping alot of younger people (20’s) think about things that WILL happen sometime here in the future.
In good times, you have the option to go slower and make more calculated decisions, in down times, you do not have that option more often than not.
Use the good times to look at your own data, and assess “if things were to crash in 1,3,6 months, would I at least break even” in terms of leverage you have put into this hobby or whatever other side hobbies you have.
I will say this though-and I’ve only been in this hobby since May of this year- There is something very interesting when in comes to Nintendo Products, especially Pokemon and their hit video games in general. I personally feel from a risk perspective, Pokemon seems to be somewhere in this crazy middle zone between Gold/Silver/Collectable Coins (which have much less risk, and Crypto, which seems to be close to gambling given how fast the ups and downs are. It’s very interesting, and one of the reasons I wanted to keep learning about it.
I also think that Pokemon has something very special that we can probably include in our risk analysis- Nintendo. Nintendo drives and pays for nearly all of the promotion and marketing. I never count that Company out. They wan’t their products to succeed, and they do a very good job at doing that. My personal opinion is that it is safe to assume that the Pokemon hobby will be doing ok through at least the Switch 2/ Next Pokemon Generation that they release, so I’m betting on a decent market through at least spring/early summer when they release their next console (aside from any non-hobby related issues like a recession or something else negative on a large scale).
The other thing thats cool about this hobby is that the actual investments (the cards) are really not that expensive. If I want to buy an ounce of gold, I need to throw down $2700 plus. If I want to invest in a booster box, I can get a sealed one for between 115-200 in the SV era. And if the market falls for some reason, and I’m in a losing position (I don’t have much invested to be fair, relatively speaking), I can always open some with the kids to have fun, sell the singles if I HAD too, or do a grading play. It’s a fun hobby to collect these just as we did as kids in the late 90’s.
Pokemon and Nintendo are truly in a market segment of their own. Nobody who’s in the hobby doesn’t enjoy opening a few packs every now and then for the fun of doing it (Aside from your crazy 5-7 hour pack breaks, you need bust out grannies thimbles lol).
Thanks for what you do man, you’re good at it and it’s always interesting to get you’re take every week. You have helped alot of us who just happened to have an old childhood binder laying around, learn how to avoid mistakes and get into a unique side investment that is just fun to do. Def makes videos like this from time to time.
Hope you get better brother!
I have zero debt. No credit cards nothing. All my product is pure capital. I deff upped it for Surging and prismatic spending thousands more than usual. Picking up every deal in bulk that I could find to secure product to get through. Some people say I’m dumb for not loading up credit cards and flipping but this is how I’ve bought everything my whole life. I could take a year off and no one is calling for money.
This seems like a video specifically aimed at flippers lol. Let them buy it all and get caught on it all when the market downturns, us true collectors and those with a long term mindset with some sort of actual interest in the hobby will prevail over the course of time- those with short term will get eaten alive when the inevitable downturn does come about.
such an important video

Im buying fan favorite high graded vintage slabs between 1999 and 2002.
Keep them in a box and will be checking the price on them in 5-10 years from now.
Hopefully i will beat inflation.
Excellent advice, and I am glad you’re offering this perspective.
